Abacus Hardware Redsign:
The data revealed numerous breakdowns in the current process not addressed by the original Abacus device. The user-testing data revealed problems inherent in the device, and opportunities for innovation. We decided to take the "fail fast and often" approach to hardware redesign.

Process
- Scavenge Home Depot for parts.
- Assemble a toolbox of interchangeable parts for testing and to support goal of modular design.
- Test designs in the field.
- Iterate, iterate, iterate.
- Have hardware built by plastics fabricator.

Design
The final design is lightweight, adjustable, can be used in "Metal Detector" or "Tennis Racquet" mode, and user can maintain comfortable position during measurement and recording interaction.
